Will I still get my refund if it says still processing?
"Being processed", means the IRS must first process your return and then approve your refund. Even though the IRS issues most refunds in less than 21 days after they receive your tax return, it's possible your tax return may require additional review and take longer.
If your refund details state that it's still processing, you can check your tax return to see if you catch any errors. If your refund status instructs you to contact the IRS, you can speak to an agent to get clarification by calling 1-800-829-1040.
When this happened to me, “is still being processed” was shown when there was a missing form holding up the return. It changed to “is being processed” once the form was submitted and the updated tax return was accepted and about to be paid out.
Status post the ITR processing
Typically, the refund process takes around 20-45 days after the e-verification of the income tax return. However, if the acknowledgement has been sent physically to the CPC, it may take longer.
Under Processing. This implies that your Income-tax Return is still not processed. It is under process. Further, no need to worry if you have e-verified or sent your signed ITR V by post as it will definitely be processed by the department sooner or later and then you will receive a refund.
It means your tax return is still being processed and a refund date will be provided when available. Processing can be a lengthy process and can be interrupted by technical issues. Wait it out no matter how inconvenient or annoying, you cannot do anything to speed up the process.
Taxpayers whose tax returns have been flagged for possible IDT should receive one of the following letters: Letter 5071C, Potential Identity Theft during Original Processing with Online Option – Provides online and phone options and is issued most widely.
Return Received – The IRS has received your return and it's being processed. Refund Approved – They've processed your return and your refund has been approved. It will also provide an actual refund date.
It means exactly what it says: We have received your tax filing; it is being processed; we'll let you know when we've finished checking it for errors or omissions and have approved a date for your refund check. It does not. It only means they have received your return and it's in process.
“Still being processed” means that something is not yet finished or completed, but it is undergoing a series of actions or steps to achieve a result. For example, you can say: Your application is still being processed.
Why does IRS still say processing?
We continue to process tax returns that need to be manually reviewed due to errors in the order received. As the return is processed, whether it was filed electronically or on paper, it may be delayed due to: Mistakes. Missing information.
But, if you've seen Tax Topic 152, your refund will likely take longer than 21 days to process. It doesn't mean you've done anything wrong or you won't get your refund. It's just an indication that your return is still being processed and has yet to be accepted or rejected.
The return has errors, is incomplete or is affected by identity theft or fraud. The return needs a correction to the child tax credit or recovery rebate credit amount. The return has a claim filed for an earned income tax credit, additional child tax credit, or includes a Form 8379, Injured Spouse AllocationPDF.
If a taxpayer receives the status update that their tax return was accepted but not approved, this means that the IRS has received their tax return, but they have not yet evaluated the information.
The most convenient way to check on a tax refund is by using the Where's My Refund? tool. Taxpayers can start checking their refund status within 24 hours after an e-filed return is received. The tool also provides a personalized refund date after the return is processed and a refund is approved.
If the IRS decides that your return merits a second glance, you'll be issued a CP05 Notice. This notice lets you know that your return is being reviewed to verify any or all of the following: Your income. Your tax withholding.
An IRS agent may call you or visit your home, but usually only after sending several letters first. When an e-filed return gets rejected, the IRS will often let you know within a few hours. It also sends a rejection code and explanation of why the e-filed return was rejected.
Approval of the refund
They'll check your income reports, verify the deductions and credits you've claimed, and ensure everything aligns with the tax laws.
The amount of tax refund money the IRS has sent out continues to pick up, even though the total number of refunds sent so far in 2024 is continuing to lag slightly behind the numbers for the same period in 2023. (Here's how to see the status of your tax refund.)
If the IRS is reviewing your return, the review process could take anywhere from 45 to 180 days, depending on the number and types of issues the IRS is reviewing.
Which is correct still in process or still on process?
